Lockheed Martin
Lockheed Martin Corporation is the largest provider of information technology services, systems integration, and training to the U.S. government. In 2002, the Bethesda, Maryland-based company posted annual sales of over $26.6 billion. With some 125,000 employees worldwide, Lockheed Martin is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, and integration of advanced technology systems, products, and services.

"Lockheed Martin seeks to maintain competitive advantage and cost savings through world-class performance in procurement and supply chain management," says Michael Bush, Corporate Director, Supplier Diversity and Global Supply Chain Management. The firm recently exceeded $1 billion in contracts with minority- and women-owned suppliers, making it eligible for induction into the Billion Dollar Roundtable, an elite group corporations convened by Minority Business News U.S.A. and Women's Enterprise Magazine.

In 2003, the Lockheed Martin Supplier Diversity team hopes to exceed its 2002 contracts. New internal and external outreach efforts include mentor programs, workshops, and training for multicultural businesses, teleconferences with business units to raise employee awareness, employee recognition programs, and the commendation of supplier diversity efforts.

"Minority-owned firms that are succeeding in the marketplace are certainly equal to, and in many instances superior to, other companies in terms of the service they deliver to major corporations," says Harriet Michel, President of the National Minority Supplier Development Council.
